Q1:Are students required to have very good English in order to join the summer school in UK?

No. Students are not expected to have excellent English in order to join this programme. It is more important for them to be motivated to learn English and to experience western culture.

 
Q2:What is/are the characteristics of this summer school program?

The summer school is beneficial to students in many different way. To name a few:
Putting English in Use - This summer school will cover the English reading and writing, speaking and listening skills. Students will learn a lot of English that is usually not covered in the traditional classroom. They will be exposed to English that will help them to live and study in an English speaking country in future. Through different activities, they will have plenty of opportunities to use English in authentic environment.
Varieties & Diversities – Students will go to different places - affluent places like Tunbrigde Wells, busy places like London, quiet town like Chedzoy, touristic city like Bath, well-known universities like Cambridge.
Students will have different activities – for example, learning in a traditional classroom vs learning on a cruise; eating in a restaurant vs outdoor picnic; modern architecture vs old buildings.
Through the careful planning of visits and activities, students will be able to the many different faces of life in the country.
Socio-economic and Cultural Exposure – Socio-economic and cultural exposure is another attraction of this summer school. For instance, through visiting Bath, they will understand how the landscape affect city outlook; through visiting cathedrals, they will be amazed at the wonders of building constructions; through shopping, they will experience what the sales service is like in the country.

 
Q3:How will students be placed in a class?

Depending on the applicants’ background, an initial placement assessment may take place on the first day in England.

 
Q4:Is there a way to prepare for the placement test?

It is not necessary to prepare for the test. The purpose of the test is to determine students’ level of proficiency so that students in similar levels will be grouped together. Just take it easy and enjoy the trip and try to engage yourself in all activities.

 
Q5::Will students' learning be certificated?

Yes. Students will be awarded a certificate and their performance will be compared to the Common European Framework.
The Common European Framework is a guideline used to describe achievements of learners of foreign languages across Europe.

 
Q6:What is the experience of the teachers?

All teachers for our group are all native speakers with qualification and/or in teaching English as a second/foreign language. All Bell teachers are police-checked and they have experience with teenage learners.

 
Q7:What are students expected to do during the programme?

Disregard the standard of the participants, they are expected to participate in all activities, whether it is formal English lesson or informal learning activities. They are discouraged from using their mother tongue whenever possible. Coming to the summer school with a positive attitude and high motivation will maximize the learning effectiveness.

 
Q8:What should be done in order to enroll this programme?

If you are interested in the program, please prepare the following items and send to the address accordingly with other supporting documents/items as needed:

An acknowledgement of receipt will be sent after we receive the application form and supporting items.

 
Q9:Will your organization help to apply for the UK Visa?

It is highly recommended that students should finish the application of the UK visa by themselves though we will try our best to provide all the assistance we can. If an invitation letter is required for the Visa application, please contact us.
If students require application of the UK visa in group by YALC, they should register for the programme on or before June 30th, and provide all the related documentation for the visa application. The respective cost will be chargeable to the students.

 
Q10:How should the tuition fee be settled?

Cost: RMB$22,000.
Including all tuition and activities, accommodations, all meals and excursions and visits;
Excluding roundtrip airfare to UK, travel insurance and out-of-pocket spending money

Q11:How would the travel from Shanghai to UK be arranged?

Students departing from Shanghai to London Heathrow are expected to take the following flight details:

Q12:What will the arrangement be after the return from UK?

Students will be dismissed at the Pudong Airport after returning from UK. Our staff will accompany students till all are picked up by their parents.

 
Q13:What is the pick-up arrangement if students travel to London Heathrow directly?

If this is the case, you need to fill out a form where you give us the flight information and arrival time to help organize reception arrangement in London. When the flight information of all students is received, we will organize pick-up and further information will be sent to you.

 
Q14:Where will the students live?

Students will live in shared accommodation. Rooms vary in size and can take 2-6 students. Students of the same gender will be grouped. Rooms are not en-suite; Bath and toilet facilities are shared.

 
Q15:What kind of food will be provided for students?

Students will have a good experience of the food culture of the country. They will have buffet meals (with choices of
main course and self-help salad bar) in school canteen, picnic lunch, meals in restaurants (both Chinese & western style).

 
Q16:Do students need to bring some food or snack for backup?

Unless the students concerned have special dietary needs, there is no need to stock up food. During the programme,
there will be time for shopping and they can get some snacks and daily necessities from local shops. It will also be a
good chance to see what are sold in local shops/supermarkets.

 
Q17:Will there be insurance provided for students?

All students will be responsible for acquiring their own travel insurance for the duration of the summer school. This
travel insurance should include basic coverage for medical care/hospitalization while overseas as well as lost luggage
or other inconveniences caused while travelling.
All students are advised to carry with them a copy of their insurance provider’s contact details with them in case of
emergency.

 
Q18:Do students need to prepare some medicines for emergency?

For students under medical treatment and require our summer school staff to help with taking medicines, please label the medicines with instruction to allow. Our staff will provide help if assistance is requested beforehand.
For other students, emergency medical care will be provided by resident nurse while at Bell and local doctors while in Somerset. However, students might still prepare some patent medicines if they like.

 
Q19:Will the school provide laundry service for students?

There will be two laundry times during the whole programme. For identification purpose, students are encouraged to
label their clothes. Also, it is advisable to bring clothes that do not need ironing as ironing service will not be
provided.

 
Q20:Do students have to bring pocket money?

Students are recommended to bring some money for card phone fee and out of pocket expenses. Further details will be
given after registration is received.

 
Q21:How will be the weather like in UK during the summer school?

Summer is the best time to visit UK. It is usually sunny and warm. Further details will be provided later.
